What is a Post and Core?
A post and core is a dental procedure done after root canal treatment when there isn’t enough natural tooth left to hold a crown. A small post is placed inside the root canal, and a “core” buildup is created over it to rebuild the tooth’s shape before fitting a crown.
Who Needs This Treatment?
You may be advised a post and core if you have:
•A tooth that had a root canal but keeps breaking or feels unstable
•Large fillings or decay leaving very little tooth structure
•Pain or discomfort when chewing on a previously treated tooth
•A crown that repeatedly comes off or feels loose
